Good night's sleep, so not really cranky, more relieved that we have the freedom to explore.
Last night I spotted a highway that goes through a cave. Huh? So we drove there, and yep, it sure does. And there's a cave tour, so let's do it.
Uh, that hourlong tour wasn't worth it. The cave has a river running through it, which has cleared out most of the decorations, so our hour long cave tour was a guide talking in front of some signboards about some artifacts that were found on a ledge just inside the cave, and some pebbles that were painted, and walking us up and down, while we could hear and smell the traffic on the road below us, ah well, all tourist traps aren't winners.
Lunch was at a small village near St-Lizier, then we went into St-Lizier and looked at one of the two big churches, an old Romanesque church with "The Cloister of the Sacred Acanthus" which was curious. The Acanthus, by the way didn't look very sacred, but was withered and brown from the summer heat. The rest of the old city looked kinda touristy, so we didn't visit church #2, but just walked back to the car and headed out to our gîte for the night, noticing that the countryside was looking more like early October than early August: many of the trees were brown and dropping their leaves from the heat and drought.
The lodging was OK, though a bit annoying the windows didn't open in our private room (another warm evening). Dinner was pretty good too. Looking forward to doing more puttering around here, then really heading away towards the Med for the weekend. Tomorrow will be our last night along the GR10, and hope the place is decent.
