It's too damn hot. We watched the forecast yesterday (mid to upper 30s) and with a 26km walk and a fair bit of ascent/decent we weren't in a mood for a death march, so we walked towards the Cirque de Gavarnie and then caught a late morning bus to Luz-St-Sauveur.
Gavarnie is definitely a popular spot, and the cirque is behind the village, so we walked down main street and then along the river, a little uphill, where there was a vista point with views that were kinda worse than were in the village. OK, that's enough, and there was a fair bit of smokey haze in the air, so nah, we're done.
Bus down the hill is at 11, we strolled down to the tourist office and waited, and maybe 40 minutes later we were dropped off at the Luz-St-Sauveur tourist office. Chris looked at the Intersport for insoles, we got drinks, and found a shady park bench to have lunch. Benches for some reason are luxury furniture in France, they are pretty rare in most all of the places we've walked through.
After an hour, time to walk the one k or so to the hotel. I've been reading Google Reviews of the places, trying to correlate them with my own assessments. Almost all the places we stay get a 4.5 or so, but this one was rated at 4.2, so I looked at the reviews, and found a few militant vegans had given one star reviews because the hotel served meat. Such useless tedious bullshit. If vegans can't adapt to the outside world by bringing their own food, stay home, and stop demanding everyone comply with their demands. It's a two-star hotel ffs.
A lazy afternoon catching up with writing and photos, a good meal (with meat), and then a surprise thunder and hailstorm after dinner, the first real rain we've seen in a month. It was refreshing.
