Didn't do much today. We tried, but not very hard.
We thought that it might be a good day to head up to the refuge we skipped over (Refuge Ilhéou), high in the mountains to the west of Cauterets. Weather was good and sunny with no rain (or clouds for that matter), and there's a tramway that goes halfway up, then a chairlift that goes a bit higher than the refuge. Go all the way up, and just walk back down, right?
So we headed on up with a lot of other walkers, a slow ride up in the cabin from 850m to 2250m, good scenery. The cabin was already warm, and then took the chairlift the rest of the way, a windless day, and the sun was pretty intense. But it gave us a good overview of the route we'd be taking: hot, above treeline so no shade, hm, do we really want to walk four or five hours to do this, when we have a hard day tomorrow with over 1000m ascent? Uh no we do not.
So we gawked a bit at the scenery and took the chairlift/telecabine back down. This being a ski area, we used the excellent mobile phone service to decide the perennial question: pizza or burger. We opted for burger. Yum.
The chef came out after we nommed and asked us "so how was it"? It was really good, best burger in months, and he said he made the buns this morning himself. Thanked him again.
It was a hard afternoon of napping and dinner after. And even a good nights sleep in a warm--not hot--room.
