Day 38 To The Point
Wed 17 Jul 2024
Distance covered today: 156km
Distance from starting: 7812 miles
After breakfast coffee-and-chocolate-banana-nut-bread with Aaron, I got back on the road. Yesterday's deluge had left a lot of sand and dirt and mud on the streets near the lake shore, and after my first stoplight and putting the right foot down in a little mud slick I was a lot more careful as i crawled underneath then onto of the Gardiner Expressway heading west. It is definitely construction season in Toronto, with lanes shifting and suddenly blocked, irritating all of us having to deal with it.
Up on the expressway, it really felt like an alien world to me, with odd slivery sunlight from behind and strange 50 story tall condos on either side on a damp mild day... like I was cutting through China Megalopolis #22, some city like Changsha or Zhengshou that may or may not be real. Plenty of time to practice low speed balancing skills too, as the traffic was maybe at 5 to 10kph.
Traffic let up and then it was just an uneventful ride, around Hamilton and down to "the shore" or whatever they call it here and Port Dover, and into the Point.
Sully said hello and he took a break from work and had a little tour in his car over to the beach where I had Perch Dinner which was tasty, then back to the Point. It was a bit overcast, so nap, then it was sunny, so get some tanning time in.... gotta start getting the all-over tan ready for Lazy Bear in a few days.
Just a nice mellow day all around, even the traffic was tolerable. Really good catching up with Sully after several months, and seeing him on his home turf.
