So my thoughts lately have been turning to 'what kind of car do I want to buy when I return to California?'
I want:
- Something cheap, around $12,000.
- Something reliable.
- Something that gets good gas mileage, 24mpg or better
- Something that can go a bit down dirt roads.
- Something with cruise control
- An automatic
I don't need:
- A big butch SUV that can drive up cliff walls
- Another gas guzzler like my last car in California
- A new car
- The most powerful engine, or even the second most powerful engine in its class
- Financing
- A kick ass stereo system with pumping bass
I assume:
- Anything I get will be comfortable enough to drive the six hours to the Sierras or Los Angeles.
Cars I've had my eye on, all used: Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Nissan Pathfinder
Cars I'd consider: Honda Civic
I wonder if all the new car financing deals have left a glut of used cars on the market.

That's also the range for a Ford Focus... I tried my hardest to hate that car... and I still think the hatchback model is ugly, but the one with the trunk (SE) is actually a nice drive, tho the one I drive is a stick.

Yay! Marmot found his penis!

So, Matthew, how's the SUV?
Oh well, at least it's not an eighteen-wheeler. Then you'd be in trouble.

Consider a Toyota Echo or Corolla. The new Corollas are VERY nice although I'm not sure what the US pricing is on them. They're economical too.
