Chamber's Pillar to Alice Springs, Northern Territory

A lazy day--looking around Chamber's Pillar, then a two hour drive into Alice Springs. We also tried bush tucker at the Red Ochre Grill!

Brrr... it was cold, just about freezing. I got up about twenty minutes before sunrise, put on the billy, and took some pictures of Chamber's Pillar as the sun came up. It was pretty good... I was glad that I checked the GPS for sunrise time, as we were shadowed by Castle Rock! Other campers in the campground were seen running over with their cameras about ten minutes after sunrise because they didn't realize the sunrise would be behind the other rock.

After that, we made a brief stop at an Aboriginal rock-carving site, then into Alice Springs. Our room wasn't ready (it was 1:00), so we drove around town, then poked around. Then we checked in, and relaxed in the room.

For dinner, we headed over to the Red Ochre Grill. Their specialty is bush-inspired foods. Chris had camel in Illawarra plum sauce, and I had kangaroo in quandong sauce. The camel bit Chris gave me had the texture of steak, but not much flavor; my kangaroo was thick and a bit tough to chew.

It was a good meal, but it certainly didn't beat our dinner just a few nights ago at the Mud Hut in Coober Pedy. That was wonderful. Mmmmmm!
