Port Douglas, Queensland
Today was a down day. We didn't do much. I cleaned up the pictures from Cape York, and Chris read and
I walked around Port Douglas. I like it. It's small and village-y, and pleasant. If I were to choose one place for a tropical beach getaway, it would win. Lots of good restaurants, a Coles if you feel like catering yourself, some nice beaches, and both the reef and rainforest close by. Recommended!
Later in the day, we met the rest of the group at the Jade Inn restaurant for a farewell dinner. It was all good! We'll be looking up a few of the folks on our way back through Sydney in December and January!
We also did some future planning. In the afternoon, I got a call from the CALM (Department of Conservation and Land Management) people in Western Australia that run the LANDScope expeditions. They confirmed our booking, and we'll be meeting them at the Billabong roadhouse in the Kalbarri region come August 31st, then spending the next 8 days botanizing the arid region flora on a nearby station they've acquired. Sounds great!
Chris also called Great Divide Tours, and cancelled our Kimberly tour. They were great, and while some of our money has already been spent, we'll get most of it back. Yay! This is great; it gives us the opportunity to spend more time in Central Australia (around Alice Springs) and the Top End. We're both happy. We enjoyed the company on our trip up Cape York, and got to know some great people, but I think we can do this on our own.
Weird Wildlife Sighting
Hm. Nothing. Not even a roach in the apartment.
